Mitchell is a nineteen-year-old youth who has finally decided to go and see his doctor about his abusive and unhealthy drinking. At first, Mitchell thought he would be able to basically go on the Internet, look for some fundamental alcohol info and make up his mind whether or not he was an alcoholic. Not unexpectedly, he found numerous websites and blogs that cataloged some of the general alcohol consumption problems. That's the positive news. The less than positive news, sadly, was that Mitchell showed evidence of a number of these problems. For instance, Mitchell has been drinking much more than normal and he has started to have more passionate quarrels with the young lady he has been dating. In much the same way, for the very first time in his life he has been experiencing sleeping problems. Similarly, Mitchell time and again has felt depressed and on an escalating basis he has been exhibiting limited attentiveness in class. So Mitchell finally made up his mind to call his doctor and schedule an appointment. When Mitchell arrived at the family healthcare practitioner's office, he explicitly informed the healthcare professional about the anxiety he feels about his excessive drinking behavior. The doctor informed Mitchell that it was intelligent of him to attend to his drinking problems, he gave Mitchell a thoroughgoing physical evaluation, and suggested that he talk to his parents about enrolling in an out-patient alcohol treatment facility that was managed by Doctor Katz, one of his doctor associates who is a drug and alcohol addiction specialist. In much the same way, when Mitchell expressed the fact that he has been feeling a sense of despair to an increasing extent, the doctor informed Mitchell that alcoholism and depression many times happen in the same individual. Thus, the healthcare practitioner also recommended that Mitchell talk to his parents about seeking therapy to attend to his depression. In fact, Mitchell would be able to go to the local counseling center and schedule an appointment with Doctor Bakos, a renowned psychologist who specializes in treating youth. The family healthcare practitioner made it a point to tell Mitchell that he might not inevitably be an alcoholic, but that he was evidently drinking in a careless manner. Stated more precisely, Mitchell was engaging in teen alcohol abuse. The doctor then informed Mitchell that the reason he suggested alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to confront his drinking difficulties, make sure that he prevented them from proliferating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to completely quit drinking. In sum, by effectively treating his alcohol drinking problems, Mitchell would be able to get his excessive and abusive drinking under control and quit the negative series of events that could most likely lead to alcoholism. Mitchell clearly did not look forward to facing his parents about his excessive drinking and his depression. And he surely did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol treatment facility. And lastly, he was not euphoric about going to a counselor about his depression. In spite of these anxieties, nevertheless, Mitchell in reality felt some emotional relief for the first time in several weeks because he ultimately stopped making excuses for himself and decided to do something affirmative about his excessive and abusive drinking.
