I work with several young guys who work in construction who display abusive and irresponsible drinking. After working exceptionally hard for eight or more hours, it seems so "right" to go to the local tavern to have a drink or two with one's friends. Commonly, however, it seems that the well-intentioned drink or two turns into a circumstance in which quite a few drinks are ingested, a lot of cash is spent, and several hours are spent at the local watering hole rather than spending time with their wife or girlfriend, family, or with their friends. How rough can it be for my hard working friends to grasp the fact that irresponsible drinking often results in relationship, marital, and friendship issues? Why are these alcoholism and alcohol abuse signs so difficult for these construction workers to see? Does it actually astonish anybody to realize that these hard working men eventually complain about alcohol-related health difficulties such as alcohol poisoning, a loss of energy, sleep disturbances, and hangovers? Is it truly unexpected that many of these hard working men are starting to have different mental health difficulties such as depression? Why can't my hard working pals "see" these alcohol abuse and alcoholism signs? Regarding the drinking problems exhibited by these hard working men, in the final analysis, what is required is honesty. Indeed, these hard working men, similar to others who involve themselves irresponsible drinking, need to look at their actions and make a factual evaluation of what irresponsible and abusive drinking is doing to their finances, to their relationships, to their health, to their jobs, and to their mental health. In short, these hard working men need to comprehend the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse exhibited by their irresponsible drinking. My hard working pals need to get motivated and enthused about wanting to make a productive change in their lives. Stated more precisely, these hard working men need to motivate themselves to go to their healthcare professional or to the local drug and alcohol rehab facility and determine whether or not they are basically abusing alcohol or if they are an alcoholic. Based on the information that is found, my hard working pals then need to get the alcohol detoxification and the alcohol treatment they require. The positive news is that there are is an almost countless number of hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehab programs, and treatment centers where my hard working friends can get first-rate rehabilitation for their excessive and heavy drinking. And with some exertion, it is feasible to find rehab programs, drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehabilitation facilities, treatment centers, and hospitals that are relatively inexpensive. There were certainly times in the past when quality treatment for alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency was more expensive and far less available that it is now. Because of the noteworthy increase of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency in the past two decades, however, an alcohol abuser or alcohol dependent person commonly has few, if any, common sense reasons for failing to come to terms with his or her excessive and heavy drinking. In point of fact, to begin the change process all it frequently takes is a phone call to one's family doctor or to someone at the local drug and alcohol rehab facility. From that point forward, lasting sobriety necessitates follow through, commitment, and an honest desire to change one's destructive style of life.
